Google Merchant Center Products Disapproved: Causes and Fixes
Google disapproves products when the data in your feed does not match your website or breaks its data rules. The most common causes are a price or availability mismatch, a missing or incorrect GTIN barcode, images with promotional text or generic pictures, missing shipping or tax details, and pages that no longer exist. Disapproved products do not show in Shopping ads or free listings until fixed.

What disapproved means
A disapproved product is one that Google has reviewed and decided it cannot show. It is removed from Google Shopping ads and free listings until the problem is fixed and Google approves it again. Products with warnings rather than errors can still show, but they may get fewer impressions and clicks.
How to find your disapproved products
- Sign in to Google Merchant Center and open your products list.
- Filter by the status Disapproved to see every affected item.
- Open each product’s issue to read Google’s stated reason, and check the account-level diagnostics for wider problems.
- Export or note the list and group the products by issue type before changing anything.
Menu names change from time to time, so look for the list of products that need attention if the labels differ.
The common causes and how to fix them
| Cause | What Google is checking | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Price or availability mismatch | The feed price and stock against the live product page | Update the feed so price and stock match the page, and automate the sync |
| Missing or incorrect GTIN | The barcode identifier for the product | Use the correct manufacturer GTIN and map the field once for all affected products |
| Generic or promotional images | A clear, unobstructed picture of the product | Replace placeholders and remove overlays such as SALE or FREE SHIPPING |
| Image size or quality | Minimum image size and clarity | Upload larger, clean images that meet Google’s size rules |
| Structured data conflict | Product markup on the page against the feed | Generate both from the same product data |
| Shipping, tax or VAT problems | Delivery costs and tax details, with VAT-inclusive prices for UK feeds | Add correct shipping and include VAT in prices |
| Landing page errors | Whether the product page loads | Remove unpublished or deleted products from the feed, or restore the page |
| Availability status mismatch | Whether backorder items are marked correctly | Map backorder and in-stock statuses correctly |
| Restricted or prohibited products | Google’s policy categories | Check eligibility, then remove the product or follow the policy steps |
| Wrong product category | The Google product category value | Choose the correct category; wrong values can limit performance |

Fix the cause, not each product
Fixing products one by one is slow and the errors return. Fix the rule that creates the error.
- Filter by Disapproved and group the products by error type.
- Fix each group at its source. For example, one feed rule can fix every product missing a GTIN, and one feed refresh can fix every price mismatch.
- Update the feed and let Google re-review the products. Request a review where the tool offers one.
- Check the diagnostics again after the next crawl and repeat for any group that remains.
About product images
- Show the product clearly, from a straight, unobstructed view.
- Do not add promotional text, borders or watermarks to the image.
- Do not use generic or placeholder pictures.
- Meet Google’s minimum size requirements for your product type.

Keep your feed healthy
- Check diagnostics on a regular rhythm so you catch disapprovals the day they happen, not at the end of the month.
- Sync price and stock from your website to the feed automatically.
- Review Google’s feed specification updates every quarter.
- Validate the feed before each upload.
- Include VAT in prices for UK feeds.
- Exclude draft, private and deleted products from the feed.

If your whole account is suspended
An account-level suspension turns off the whole Google channel at once. Specialists say these are usually triggered by Google’s misrepresentation policy, which checks whether the business can be trusted. Make sure your website clearly shows your business name, contact details, delivery and returns information and a secure checkout, and that these match what you gave Merchant Center. Read Google’s current policy before you request a review.

Frequently asked questions
Why are my products disapproved in Google Merchant Center?
Mostly because your feed disagrees with your website or breaks a data rule: price or availability mismatches, missing or wrong GTINs, bad images, missing shipping or VAT, or pages that no longer exist. The diagnostics area shows the exact reason for each product.
Do I need a GTIN for every product?
Google disapproves products with an incorrect GTIN, and missing ones where an identifier applies. Some products without barcodes, such as custom or handmade items, can be declared as having no identifier. Check Google’s product data specification for your category before relying on this.
How long until products are approved again?
Google re-reviews products after you update the feed or the page. We could not find a published guaranteed timeframe, so check the diagnostics rather than expecting a date.
Do prices need to include VAT?
For UK and EU feeds, yes: specialist guidance says prices in the feed and in page markup should include VAT. Check Google’s current requirement for your country.
What is the difference between free listings and Shopping ads?
Free listings show your products in Google results without paying per click, while Shopping ads are paid. Both use the same product feed, so fixing disapprovals helps both.
Can I ignore warnings?
Warnings are lower priority than errors, because products with warnings can still show, but they may get fewer impressions and clicks. Fix the warnings once the disapprovals are cleared.
